Construction toys vary in sophistication, ranging from simple wooden blocks to complex Lego sets with detailed instructions. Regardless of the skill level required, construction toys share one crucial element: their infinite, reusable quality. A child can build one structure, knock it down or take it apart, and build something new, limited only by her own imagination. Many toys do not have the same open-ended play. A board game, for instance, has a limited number of possible outcomes, and a coloring book survives just one use. An endless number of possibilities, however, awaits the child who engages in construction play.
