The top comb and the middle comb, with their ends at an angle, are known as naginata. Naginata are used to make fine adjustments to a hairstyle anywhere on the head. The chunky semicircular comb at the bottom is called a hamaguri (clam) because of its shape. It is used to put the finishing touches to a top-knot.
