Necklace with cylindrical and face beads

Glencairn Museum

Glencairn Museum
Bryn Athyn, United States

“The glass beads on this necklace reveal the skill of the Roman period glassworkers. The multicolor cylindrical beads are an example of the millefiori technique, which creates a floral mosaic design. The three large, round glass beads are decorated with miniature depictions of human faces, painstakingly created by ancient craftsmen using canes of glass.” (Jennifer Wegner, label text, “Sacred Adornment: Jewelry as Belief in Ancient Egypt”)
