The eyes on the outside of Nekhet-kawi’s mummy case were magic symbols of multiple aspects. In the first instance they restored the dead person’s sight, so that he or she could see out into the realm of the living. Secondly they were a protection from evil. Thirdly they symbolised the rebirth of the deceased into a new life.
