Nested cup weights were used in general commerce, in weighing precious metal bullion, for coin weighing, and as an inspection or verification kit. Regardless of the use they had, the accuracy of the weight was always checked by an officer who stamped his mark or contrast on the weight to verify when and who gave the approval.
