Albrecht Klink is a third generation wood sculptor born in 1962 in Weil am Rhein, Germany. He received most of the inspiration for his work from his family’s work in creating religious sculptures. While working in radiological imaging at a hospital, he studied anatomy on his own. While spending time in Italy, he began to invest his time and effort into his painting and sculpting work. While working in northern Norway, he created a series of casting works using bronze and stone. This series launched him into notoriety as a wood sculptor after working with Noack Foundry of Berlin to create bronze sculptures. Klink’s unique and well-trained wood sculpting techniques are to be put on display during this year’s biennale. Klink’s unique and well-trained wood sculpting techniques are to be put on display during this year’s biennale in the form of his piece Cheongju Newspaper. He shows the history of Cheongju and how it is today using pieces of the newspaper as a reinterpretation of his techniques in woodworking to create a new visual experience for his audience.
