The diversity of iconography and patterning to be found in the designs painted onto objects made and used by Aboriginal people reinforces the strong cultural distinctions that exist across Aboriginal Australia. This Wunda shield was produced in the late 19th century by the Ngarla people of Nickol Bay in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. It was acquired by Museum Victoria in 1890 from the Hon. J Forrest.
