The Ko-omote mask represents a young girl of maiden-like innocence and pure beauty. It has small eyes and a faint smile at the corners of mouth. The eyebrows are depicted by both black paint and small horizontal engravings. The backside is finished with a wiped lacquer coating and bears the inscription ‘小面 (Ko-omote )’ in vermilion ink.
