As the name shows, the Shiwa-jo mask has exaggerated wrinkles on his cheeks. Jo masks are often used for incarnated gods or spirits which later reveal their identities. Shiwa-jo, however, appears on the stage as a dignified god or the spirit of a plant. It has the looks of a serene and dignified elderly man.
