Not Far From Scranton

A native of Philadelphia, Lear studied art with Thornton Oakley at the Pennsylvania Museum School of Industrial Arts (now the University of the Arts). This painting depicts the gritty, industrial landscape of northeastern Pennsylvania’s coal country during the years following the Great Depression.
