Novelty box in the shape of melon

The surfaces of this novelty container meant for export, display designs of butterflies, fruits and flowers rendered in gilt and black on a red lacquer ground. The finial is in the form of a twisted vine and it comes with a matching red and gilt lacquer carved wood stand.
