Numbers

Numbers is an abstract artwork by the South African artist Fikile Magadlela painted in 1980. The work showing blocks and abstract symbols are partly due to the interest Magadlela had in numerology. Short Biography: Fikile Patrick Magadlela was born in Newclare in Johannesburg in 1952. His parents were politically active and his parents were incarcerated in the 1960s which led to him following the same activism and being jailed in 1984. Magadlela was mostly self thought and was a practising artist by age 16 but was mostly Unattributed to the broader South African art public due to his political life. His art only became formally recognised with a retrospective exhibition in 1995 and he passed away in 2003.
