Nuts and Vine: ideas for dresses drawn from a new Empire review
Several days ago, a new Hippodrome review featured a dress worth about 7,000 pounds, and today (Saturday) a London-based correspondent writes that when the curtain of Nuts and Vine, the viewers of the new Empire review will see a demonstration of sartorial extravagance. Some 150 dresses were created for women participating in Nuts and Vine; the fashion programme covered all of the facets of fashionable outfits, from “correct” clothes for emancipated flappers and sporty women to elegant ball capes and evening gowns for a night at a restaurant.
Summer flappers
The twelve flappers are dressed identically in “old” pink silk and skirts with white twill suspenders. Eight stenographers are dressed in pale grey crepe-de-chine with collars and large soft pink silk butterflies that look like uniforms for young girls working in offices. When it comes to splendid fandango balls, though, Lady Teazle dresses will be popular this and next month, made of blue panne velvet, blue satin, beige lace and tulle, lilac satin with sophisticated flower cretonne, displayed by five charming girls from the troupe.
Yachting season
The hats from the On the Yacht scene will obviously influence next season’s fashion. The dresses look very elegant and, as most of the costumes made for the troupe, were created by Madame Paquin, who has recently put into life Bakst’s ideas.
