Repeater then professor of geometry at the Ecole Polytechnique, he gave a considerable boost to nomography; set of methods intended to replace numerical calculations by a simple reading on a graphic table called "abacus". He published numerous scientific works, but also in a completely different field, vaudevilles under the pseudonym of Pierre Delix. Member of the French Academy of Sciences in 1922.
