"Oda Nobunaga's "Kinzei" Prohibition Decree"

During the Sengoku Period of Japan, also known as the Warring States Period, Oda Nobunaga was the daimyo, the provincial warlord, of Owari Province (present-day Aichi Prefecture). On September 26th 1568, Oda Nobunaga entered Kyoto in the name of Ashikaga Yoshiaki, the 15th shogun of the Muromachi Shogunate.
To allay the fears of the people, Oda Nobunaga issued his “Kinzei” decree, prohibiting his soldiers from performing any acts of violence, looting, occupation, arson, and deforestation.
He signed this document in the lower left with his famous red seal: “Tenka Fubu,” meaning “Conquering the world with military might.”
