Old Archives Warehouse

By 1914, the Archives' vault in the state capitol building was overflowing. In the 1930s, the Secretary of State began to transfer the overflow of documents to a warehouse in downtown Sacramento. Although it provided more space, unfortunately this warehouse had no security or temperature controls. Today's archivists would deem this warehouse unsuitable for archival storage.
