It is a typical plant of the Mediterranean shrub, it is found in association with other plants-(euphorbia, carob, pistachio etc..). Due to its frugal, eliphilic properties it is often found in degraded shrubs, in garages and along coastlines. It is a tree with long life span and very slow growth (it can live up to 2000 years). Its shrub-like, thorny branches and the fruits are smaller than the common olive tree fruits. It reproduces by seed. It is resistant to grazing as it is shrub like and thick branched and thorny. It resist to fires as it is able to sprout quite quickly. The wood is thick dark brown, it is used in elegant carpentry to make floors and upholsters. It is a good combustible as it burns well even when still fresh.
