The Order of the Golden Fleece was founded by Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy and Netherlands on the day of his marriage to Isabella of Portugal – January 10, 1429. Since 17th century, the order loses its significance as the order of chivalry; its supplements become evidence of royal grace. The history of the Order is related to Netherlands, France, Spain and Austria.
The Order has three mottoes: ANTE FERIT QUAM FLAMMA MICET – «The blow falls before the flame flare up»; PRETIUM LABORUM NON VILE – «Reward is not inferior to merit»; NON ALIUD – «I owe and desire no other»
