Reliefs and sculptures from the entry façade of Kapara’s palace, which were housed in von Oppenheim’s private museum (Tell Halaf Museum), were heavily damaged during World War II. During the last few years they have been carefully restored. The series of smaller reliefs alternates grey basalt and red-tinted limestone. A few bear brief cuneiform inscriptions such as “Palace of Kapara, son of Hadianu”, thereby documenting the function and builder of the structure. The inscription “Temple of the weather god” and traces of obliterated inscriptions suggest that some of the relief orthostats were originally used in a different context.
