Osip Mandelstam after his second arrest, 1938. Mandelstam was a Russian poet, novelist, essayist, translator and literary critic. He was one of the most important Russian poets of the 20th century. Having been accused of anti-Soviet activity he died in a transit camp in Vladivostok on his way to a correctional labor camp (his second incarceration).
