It is easy to miss Takahiro Iwasaki’s artwork, not only because they are miniscule mountains or houses, but also because the fascinating landscapes are actually made up of regular household fabrics such as towels, toothbrushes, and t-shirts.
Originally from Hiroshima, Japan, Iwasaki was able to empathize through the stories his elders told that an atomic bomb, despite its size, contains enough power to destroy an entire city. This has affected his creative work. Iwasaki takes everyday materials and unravels them, teasing out the smallest fibers, and uses them to rebuild structures that are so firm and tall in reality.
The artist intentionally used cloth from the JAMEI CHEN store to explore the connections between life, industry, and nature.
