Georgi Mashev was an artist prominent in the cultural life of Bulgaria between the 1920s and 1940s. He studied painting in 1906–1907 under Prof. Petko Klisurov at the State School of Drawing, Sofia. A year later, he studied at the Art Academy of Saint Petersburg. He went to Brussels where, between 1910 and 1911, he studied painting at the Art Academy under Prof. Edmond Richard. On returning to his native country, he graduated in 1912 under Prof. Ivan Mrkvička. He was involved in the fields of portraiture, composition, and landscape. His pictorial works were symbolically painted, with many of them depicting folkloric mythological themes. He also painted historical compositions.
