A scene from the Bayeux Tapestry depicting William, Duke of Normandy and his army on horseback as they arrive at Le Mont Saint-Michel, cross the Couesnon River, and become stuck in quicksand. On the right side of the image, Harold Godwinson, Earl of Wessex can be seen pulling two of the soldiers from the sand, as the soldiers retreat to their ship and continue on to Brittany. A border decorated with different types of animals runs along the top and bottom. Latin text above the scene reads "NERUNT AD MONTE MICHAELIS ET HIC TRANSIERUNT FLUMEN COSNONIS HIC HAROLD DUX TRAHEBAT EOS DE ARENA AT VENERUNT AD DOL ET CONAN"
