Habitat Diorama Illustrating the effects of substances in the environment

Habitat Diorama is a work by Laurie Hogin. Mutant landscapes and unreal beasts depicted in a hyperrealist style make up the American artist's dystopian universe. Her paradises of opulence, irresistible and critical in equal parts, explore the possible consequences of cannibalistic consumerism and the progressive distancing from nature. Laurie Hogin, influenced by 17th century Flemish masters and Italian Renaissance paintings, presents cartoons, toys and pornography as other key elements in her inspirational process. In this way the artist defines her animals as clear allegories of contemporary culture: the skin and fur of her creatures are tactile as well as toxic.
