A Paper by OWAAD based on a conference held in 1979. The Paper begins by defining the term "black" and "black women", and stating the preferred definition for the purposes of OWAAD. It discusses the experiences of both Africans and Asians under colonialism and how it unites the two ethnic groups. Page 2 appears to be missing.
The third page describes the experience of both Caribbean and Asian immigrants in Britain, beginning with the experiences of Caribbean immigrants during the Post-War economic boom. The paper mentions the 'series of Immigration Acts' in the 1960s as the British government attempted to control the immigration of Black people. The fourth page attempts to illuminate the situation of the East African Asian and their predicament due to 'Africanisation policies' in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda in the 1960s and 1970s, which led them to immigrate to Britain. It includes the difficulties they faced when they arrived in the Britain such as racism from the National Front.
The fifth page discusses poor working conditions for Black and Asian women in Britain. It mentions, 'ESN' schools, the 'NHS' sterilising Black women without their consent and using a potentially dangerous contraceptive 'Depo-Provera'. It also includes how Asian women suffer with the 'NHS' due to language difficulties which has led to the death of many children. It briefly introduces the problems young Black people face with the 'SUS laws'.
The last page concludes with a summary of all the different issues black women face in British society and why unity is vital for addressing these issues.
