Senckenberg Nature Museum Frankfurt

After being gone from the wild for several centuries already, the Père David’s Deer was discovered by the Jesuit priest Armand David in the Chinese emperor’s Royal Hunting Park near Beijing. Members of this herd were brought to Europe and survived in parks and zoos; since 1985, they have been reintroduced near Beijing and Shanghai.
