Renaissance and Reformation. German Art in the Age of Dürer and Cranach

A part of gilded wheel-lock pistols decorated with equestrian battles and tendril ornaments were probably part of this gift as well. The two pommels, which can be opened by pressing a button and serve as containers for small instruments to clean the barrel, are also original. The considerable number of saddles, weapons, and armor made in Augsburg acquired under Christian I testifies to the great appreciation for the skill and refinement of southern German masters at the court of Saxony.
