Geneva, Switzerland, Jan. 2, 1945. As the European war intensified, Red Cross societies stepped up their shipments of packages for their prisoners of war. In this picture, at the Grand Palais warehouse in Geneva, the cartons in the right foreground are from the Canadian Red Cross. Single American Red Cross packages are seen in the front of the two workman. All told, over 27,000,000 prisoner of war food, tobacco, and medical packages were assembled by American Red Cross volunteers for military purchased supplies in the years of World War II. The International Committee of the Red Cross arranged for transportation of the parcels to prison camps.
