Hanton (Antón González)1957

IAACC Pablo Serrano

IAACC Pablo Serrano
Zaragoza, Spain

In this abstract composition, the artist structures the pictorial space using uneven, contrasting spots of color as a base. The layout and technique used in the color fields create a chromatic mosaic which forms a spatial frame around the canvas. Combining the application of color with brushstrokes loaded with pigment hides the primer and initial drawing. Consequently, the colors in the pictorial space move within its chromatic limits without any defining lines. The artist has transferred to this work his interests and experiences around the fundamental values of abstraction learned in Paris during his stay from 1956 to 1961.
During this era Antón abandoned all references to realism in order to immerse himself in abstraction. He uses irregular spots of color arranged symmetrically as tiles, influenced by cubism and Kandinsky as confirmed by the original artist.
