Pair of lace coverings (vertical)

Calais, France

A prestigious lace, the point d'Alençon, a point liberated from the French point realised in French factories in the 17th century, appeared in the 18th century. The coverings are two sections of lace, which are usually part of a bonnet and frame the face. They can also be mounted on the top of the head. These are representative of French tastes in the second half of the 18th century: the pattern diminishes in favour of the base.
