Panel prepared in 1884 in which Gaetano Chierici represented a sort of stratigraphy of the main archaeological sites explored until then in the province of Reggio Emilia. The oldest excavations were depicted on the lower levels, the most recent on the upper levels; the panel was accompanied by a cabinet in which the finds of the excavations depicted were arranged in the same way.
Starting from the bottom, the bands of the panel refer to: Stone Age (Neolithic), Copper Age, Bronze Age, (with a reconstruction of a terramara), Iron Age, Protohistoric Age (divided into "Gallic period, Roman period, Barbarian period).
The panel was shown in 1884 in Turin at the General Exhibition of Anthropology, promoted by Enrico Morselli, anthropologist and neuropsychiatrist of positivist culture, who worked at the San Lazzaro Institute in Reggio Emilia. The Museum of Reggio Emilia was awarded the gold medal for the panel.
