The coarse skin (up to four centimeters thick), which is only soft in the area of the folds, gives the Indian Rhinoceros an armor-plated appearance. Bulls can reach a weight of up to 2.2 tons and a body length of 3.6 meters. Unlike their African relatives, they only possess a single horn. Since the pulverized horn is sold at top prices, the Indian Rhinoceros is subject to intense hunting pressure despite its international protection status.
