The "Dolly Dingle of Dingle Dell" paper dolls created by Grace Drayton for "Pictorial Review Magazine" ran from 1913 until 1933. The adorable figures Drayton created sported huge expressive eyes, rounded rosy cheeks, and darling dimples. In the series, Dolly traveled the world and made friends in Rome, Germany, Egypt, India, and Japan. Along with Dolly's new friends, Drayton showcased native costumes and iconic symbols of their cultures. Dolly's travels reflected Americans' fascination with distant peoples and their customs brought on by 20th-century advances in transcontinental travel and world communication.
