The U. S. presidents of the past 50 to 60 years and their families have appeared in paper doll books. The sophisticated fashion sense of Jacqueline Kennedy, First Lady in 1961, inspired many little girls to play with Jackie paper dolls and her exquisite wardrobe. Lyndon Johnson and his wife Lady Bird might not have furthered the popularity of presidential paper dolls, but their two, young-adult daughters provided just the right inspiration for girls of paper-doll-playing age. President Richard Nixon's daughters, Tricia and Julie, adorned the covers of paper doll books, as did Amy Carter when her dad became president in 1977. President Ronald Reagan and his wife Nancy, both glamourous stars of Hollywood movies, inspired several paper doll books. The tradition continues to the present day. Paper doll enthusiasts will find sets with fashions for President Obama and his family readily available.
