In this architectural piece, the flower-inspired motifs form a background to the inscriptions. In Islamic art, they are usually far removed from botanical reality, as here, where it is difficult to identify any particular plant, although the essential components of plants can be seen.
The curling twigs structure the composition: leaves and flowers hang from them, echoing the continuous and rhythmic movement of the calligraphic inscriptions. Coppery reflections add light and enhance the blue and white enamels, helping to create a dynamic composition known as "arabesque." This endless movement, which extends beyond the object itself and the visible world, reminds the viewer of the infinity of divine creation.
