The Patachitra depicts popular folklore of 'Wedding of Fish', where all the fishes have been invited to the marriage of the Dariya fish, except the monster fish. During merry-making and feasting, the fishes do not realise that danger is looming large. The monster fish is a Boal fish that pops up and swallows all other fishes because he was not invited to this wedding. This is a popular subject of Patachitra painting and all the artists paint this story in their own ways.

The Patuas paint and sing on various themes like mythological tales, historical and contemporary themes and social issues.
