This small painting is one of three works by Arthur Jones which hang in Laurance Rockefeller's study in the Mansion. They all depict local sites and scenes which are typical of Vermont rural landscapes. The three works are not a trio, but are individual pieces.
Given the subject matter of the paintings, it is likely Aruther Jones was a local artist. The Rockefeller's were very supportive of Woodstock artists and art galleries; several works by local artists purchased by the Rockefellers remain in the collection today.
