Arthur Heygate Mackmurdoc.1882

William Morris Gallery

William Morris Gallery
Walthamstow, London, United Kingdom

Artur Heygate Mackmurdo and other members of the Century Guild admired William Morris and the patterns and design produced by his firm. However, the designs they produced for printed cottons and wallpapers were much more abstracted that Morris’s. This printed cotton, ‘Peacock’, was produced in a variety of colours. Here the peacocks can be spotted by their pale tail feathers found within the frame of red abstracted lines. The ‘CG’ monogram can also be spotted in this pattern between each pair of peacocks.
