A young woman in folk costume is sewing in the garden. Her shaded face is rendered in warm colours. Ipolit Strâmbu's impressionist brushwork highlights the way the light falls on the rich vegetation in the background and on the girl's hair, which is loosely tied back. In the painting, only the top of the costume is visible. The vaporous, tight-fitting neckline, is embroidered from the shoulders to the elbows. Around her neck she is wearing several strings of polychrome beads made of different materials: coral, ceramic, wood, leather or glass.
