“Camponesa” (Peasant): Painted with pastel, this artwork represents a real image, recognizable, possible to find in any village of the interior of Portugal. I saw her in São Pedro do Sul. She is a symbol of hard work, that marks its severity in the body and the soul. Holding an old and worn hoe, I emphasize her swollen hand with arthropathy that attracted my attention. Marks of a hard life, without aesthetic concern, ethical or political doubts. Her nostalgic look, appeals us to behold her essence, in a disturbing silence. A state of mind, where sensibility and restlessness converge, with dreams, memories and hope. An autumn of life. This is a deserved tribute to the peasant woman that dream, fights, suffers and persists. A part of our cultural identity.
