Taranto, Italy

Pendant consisting of a spherical quartz body with vertical grooves, held between two circular gold plates decorated with a ring of petals as part of a flower-like filigree decoration. At the centre of each of the two plates, which are connected by a gold wire running through the pendant from top to bottom, are small gold cylinders: the upper one has a gold hook from which the object could be hung from a string; the lower one features a six-petalled rosette. The large size of the object, found in an already-violated funerary context, makes its use as a necklace pendant unlikely.
