St. Enda's College school for boys was founded in 1908 by Padraic Pearse, Easter Rising 1916 leader. Both plays produced on the 17th May 1913, The Post Office by Rabindranath Tagore and An Rí Padraic Pearse, were performed by the Abbey Second Company and the students of St. Enda's College. William Pearse, brother of Padraic Pearse directed the second play and played the role of 'An Abbot'. Many of the students listed in An Rí later joined Pearse in the General Post Office during the Easter Rising. Sean Connolly, Abbey actor and first rebel casualty of the Rising, played in The Post Office.
