The central block of the Queen's House was designed by Inigo Jones and built between 1616 and 1637. It was commissioned by Anne of Denmark, the wife of King James I. However, Anne died in 1619 and it was not until 1629 that work on the house resumed when Charles I gave it to his wife, Henrietta Maria.
