In most houses, peti are raised from the ground by keeping bricks under each leg. This is done to prevent water coming into contact with the legs of peti during regular cleaning and mopping. This peti, kept inside a room near the entrance of the house, was one such example. Utensils and mattresses used when guests visited were stored in it.
