In 1958, the use of electric vehicles was deemed uneconomical by the Deutsche Bundespost. After the oil crisis of the 1970s and the associated extreme rise in fuel prices, however, the Bundepost started testing out electric vehicles once more in Bonn, at the suggestion of Federal Post Minister Gscheidle. The attempt failed because of the same common problem: batteries and charging infrastructure. The situation has changed again since, and as of 2014, the Deutsche Post DHL Group has been producing its own electric delivery vehicles in the form of the StreetScooter.
