Photograph of Lincoln's Funeral Car

The train car carrying Lincoln's remains was named the United States. Built in Alexandria, Virginia, for the president’s transportation (like Air Force One and Marine One today) , it was completed only a few months before Lincoln’s death. The journey to Springfield was the first and last time the president traveled in it.
