Photo of Choe Hyeonbae giving a lecture in Yonhui College. The Korean linguist, Oesol Choe Hyeonbae, was a professor at Yonhui College who influenced Yoon Dongju’s refined Korean poetry language. After majoring in philosophy and education at Kyoto Imperial University in Japan, Choe Hyeonbae, a student of Ju Sigyeong (1876–1914), joined Yonhui College to teach philosophy, education, and ethics there. His representative works include “The Grammar of Our National Language” and “Orthophonics.”
