The sport of croquet originated in England in the mid-nineteenth century and spread throughout the world soon afterwards. It endured through the twentieth century, going through various phases of popularity. A snapshot from the 1950s or 60s shows a game in progress, and demonstrates the multi-generational aspect of a casual backyard game of croquet.
