In 1921, Rochester firm Bausch & Lomb had an official basketball team, the Balcos. Among their players was Mr. Harold R. "Butch" Clark, who is seated furthest to the right in this image. Clark was an incredibly talented athlete throughout his life, and he also served in the Marines, in France, during World War I. After the War, he played for Rochester's own professional football team, the Jeffersons, which was disbanded in 1925. He also played semi-professional baseball with a Knights of Columbus team. Clark's descendants gave the Strong many artifacts related to his sports and military careers. These help document not only a notable athlete, but also many of the city's early sports clubs and activities.
