Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, the United Kingdom had a permanent presence in the Gulf; the Trucial Scouts acted as a military presence. Britain posted a senior diplomat (called the political resident) and a group of political representatives in various cities in the Gulf, including Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Portraits of some of these senior diplomats are displayed in this section along with photographs, letters and publications documenting their time in the UAE.
